Authentic Belgiums Waffles @ Home!!

I LOVE legit Belgium waffles and Taste of Belgium here is Cincy, it's so authentic, heart warming, and revitalizes the community it' in. I recommend the Chicken and Waffle, it's better than any other Chick and Waff I've ever had! Plus get a side of Goetta Frites with the egg on top.

Since I would about 60 hours a week I cannot always go to their restaurant, so for months I researched and tried to find how I needed to make them and what kind of sugar I needed etc. I thought I had to purchase the sugar online which was such a hassle for me, I need instant gratification. I was able to find Belgium sugar crystals from Sur La Table and is the Lars Brand, the box was only $5.99.

These babies were soft, crunchy, gooey, sweet, a tad bit of salty, and absolutely delicious. This recipe made far more than I needed so half of it got frozen, this will make it super easy to thaw and cook on another day!

So I found a recipe that as way to labor intensive so I made my own. This creation turned out to be the bee's knee's especially with the whipped cream I made to throw on top! Can you say "winning", here's how I made them:

Ingredients:

Directions:
  1. 1. Pour yeast and sugar over warm water in a small bowl. The water should be very warm to the touch hot tap water should be enough. Allow yeast to rest for 15 minutes until it has a creamy foam on top.
  2. 2. Mix eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract (or apple pie spice) in the yeast mix and stir. Stir flour and salt in another bowl, then make a circle in the middle of the dry mix.
  3. 3. Pour the egg mix in that hole, then stir in the flour until soft dough forms. Cover and allow to rise in a warm place (I turned the stove on 350 degrees and place bowl on top) until doubled in size, about 30 minutes.
  4.  4. Mix in Belgium Liege or pearl sugar.
  5. Turn on your waffle maker and allow to preheat as directed.
  6. Make a tennis ball size of  your dough mix on the preheated waffle iron.
  7. 5. Allow waffles to cook until golden and crisp, about 2 minutes.

Make sure you use tongs to remove the waffles, the melted sugar is EXTREMELY hot, and I found out the hard way.

You can serve them with fresh fruit, whip cream, peanut butter or nutella!! ENJOY!

Stay hungry my friends...
